    Oarfish are large, greatly elongated, pelagic Lampriform comprising the small family Regalecidae. Found in all temperate to tropical oceans yet rarely seen, the oarfish family contains four species in two genera.

    One of these, the king of herrings (Regalecus glesne), is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bony fish alive, at up to 17 metres (56 ft) in length.

    The fact that we don’t know what’s in the ocean makes me scared to swim there. Just looking at some of the fish we DO know about, they are fish I hope I never have to encounter. Even if they are harmless, i’d be scared shitless to run into one while swimming!
